How and Why to Start a Blog

I've had a couple of people ask me in the past couple months why I started my blog and how they can start their own, and how to decide what to even write about. It can be overwhelming to think about starting something so huge, but I can assure you, it is worth it. So, here are some reasons to start a blog and how to start a blog if you are interested:

The whole reason I started my blog is because I want to share my life experiences with other girls my age. If someone can read this and feel like they are not alone and they are going through the same things, then I have succeeded. I want other girls my age to realize that everything is going to be okay, and that they have support in other girls (aka me) and that we can all figure out this life thing together.
With access to social media and the internet we should be using it to share our experiences and help each other get through stressful times in our lives. Too many young women feel alone and like they have no where to go when it comes to their problems, so if I can write about something that will help them get through a similar problem, my blog is successful. I love receiving little messages that a certain blog has been enjoyable to read or that it is relatable.
I am already going to be writing it down, whether in a journal or just on my computer. Why not let other women use what I've learned and grow from it.

I've been into writing and photography my whole life, but I've never been able to get around to writing a book, so blogging just made sense. I love being able to showcase my photography and utilize my photography skills to emphasize my writing and vice versa.
Writing is something that has been in my blood since I could write complete sentences. I've been writing short stories since I was in middle school and English was always my favorite subject and the class I did the best in. Since writing comes so naturally, writing these blog posts are fun and enjoyable for me. Knowing that people are reading them and even relating to them is even better.

I started my blog through Blogger, but Wordpress is probably a better option for blogging. Wordpress does a lot to help with SEO and actually getting reads on your posts. I have had some success with Blogger, but I will probably move over to Wordpress soon, once I can figure out how to do it without completely messing up my stuff.
If I could go back, I would have started with Wordpress. I do think that Blogger is much more user friendly for those who do not know much about coding, themes, and just want a place to write and let out some thoughts - which is where I was when I started almost a year ago.

The biggest tip I read before starting my blog was to come up with 50 topics that are all related to each other that would work for your desired blog. If you cannot come up with at least 50 topics, there is no way you will be able to come up with years of content in that particular niche. Finding something that you are passionate about is the most important thing when it comes to blogging. Writing about what you are interested in is going to help you write meaningful content that others want to read.

Don't worry about sharing your blog with anyone or worrying about who reads it. Establish a schedule and begin writing without worrying who might see it. Build up your confidence and your writing style before sharing and gaining readers. Through SEO you should see some reads, but do not worry about those either, as those are people who found your blog from other sources.
